A Weekend of Exploration: Copenhagen, the City of Candy-coloured Buildings, the Little Match Girl, and Furry Black Hats
Copenhagen! Or should I say København for its interestingly written name means much more than one would think - namely, “the prince’s harbour”. Intriguing without a doubt! The winter when I arrived in Copenhagen for a first time was so cold that wearing Converse turned out to be the most courageously reckless idea I have ever had. However, the walk through the Danish capital made me forget about my freezing limbs and uncovered a whole new world in front of me - the world of Scandinavia. A brisk wind welcomed us at the harbour alley where we could see the beautiful statue of the Little Mermaid. Back in the city center a monument of Hans Christian Andersen reminded us of our childhood years and the writer’s touching moral stories. Suddenly, his characters started coming to life in front of us and one could very well imagine the Little Match Girl selling her matches in the coldness of the night. The opera house at the harbour, contrasting greatly to Copenhagen’s overall “marine” aka Scandinavian architecture, represented the Danish futuristic lifestyle. Not far away from it - the harbour houses dispersing very successfully the coldness in the air and cheering up our hearts with their bright candy colours. And at the inner grounds of the queen’s palace we became witnesses of the best guardian uniforms I have ever seen in my life!
